PM hosts lunch for ex-Cyprus president

PRIME Minister Goh Chok Tong and Mrs Goh hosted lunch yesterday for the former president of Cyprus, Dr George Vassiliou, and his wife Androula at the River House Arowana restaurant at Clarke Quay.

Dr Vassiliou, who was president of Cyprus from 1988 to 1993, is on a four-day visit here with his wife. They arrived on Monday.

Dr Vassiliou is here at the invitation of the Singapore International Foundation and the Institute of Policy Studies. He gave a public lecture on Monday on the challenges facing Eastern Europe.

Yesterday, he called on Information and Health Minister Brigadier-General (NS) George Yeo.

He will call on Foreign Affairs Minister S. Jayakumar and be given a briefing by the Economic Development Board today.
