Barry McManus
Barry McManus served as a distinguished officer with the Clandestine Service of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency for close to three decades. He is one of the few who received the Career Intelligence Medal, recognizing his accomplishments in supporting U.S. intelligence and national security policy as a top-tier professional in the use of non-coercive interrogation, elicitation and interviewing techniques against terrorists, hostile intelligence agents and hardened criminals.
After having served for 26 years with the CIA as the Chief Forensic Psychophysiologist, Dr McManus moved into the private sector. He joined Abraxas Corporation, an overseas business intelligence and consultancy company, and Patriot Group International, an international due diligence firm. He currently serves as an international consultant with Global Traveller as a leading expert in information elicitation, deception detection, behavioural assessments, interviews and interrogations. He still continues to play a major role in supporting US government agencies and allied countries in developing programmes to combat terrorism.
He has extensive professional experience in more than 140 countries throughout the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.
Dr McManus received his doctorate from George Mason University, and was subsequently selected as a scholar to attend Christ Church College at Oxford University. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University’s School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution and an Associate Professor at a local Virginia college.
He is prominent in the media. An author of and contributor to several books, articles and journals on culture, psychological behaviour and terrorism, he has served as a contributor to CNN, National Public Radio (NPR) Radio Lab and National Geographic Television. He also serves as a regular contributor to a locally-syndicated US Television Station, TV One.
