Barry McManus

Dr Barry McManus served as a distinguished officer with the Clandestine Service of the US Central Intelligence Agency for close to three decades. He is one of the few who received the Career Intelligence Medal. He is widely recognized for his accomplishments in supporting American intelligence and national security policy as a top-tier professional in the use of non-coercive interrogation, elicitation and interviewing techniques against terrorists, hostile intelligence agents and hardened criminals.

After having served with the CIA as the Chief Forensic Psychophysiologist, Dr McManus transitioned into the private sector. He joined Abraxas Corporation, an international business intelligence and consultancy company, and Patriot Group International, a global due diligence firm. He currently is Founder and CEO of Global Traveller, a US-based company which is a leader in information elicitation, deception detection, behavioural assessments, interviews and interrogations. Dr McManus continues to play a major role in supporting US government agencies and allied countries in developing programmes to strengthen national security for America and its allies.

He has extensive professional experience in more than 140 countries throughout the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Dr McManus received his doctorate from George Mason University, and subsequently attended Christ Church College at Oxford University as a Scholar. He is a member of the Oxford Roundtable and occasionally lectures at the Harris Manchester College. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University’s School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution and an Associate Professor at a local Virginia college.

He is prominent in the media. An author of and contributor to several books, articles and journals on culture, psychological behaviour and terrorism, he has served as a contributor to CNN, National Public Radio (NPR) Radio Lab and National Geographic Television. He also serves as a regular contributor to a locally syndicated US Television Station, TV One.
