As a respected journalist at The Straits Times, Derwin held prominent positions as Bureau Chief in both Indonesia and the United States. He has interviewed an array of influential global figures, including all Indonesian presidents since the fall of Suharto, former US President George W. Bush, and former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. These experiences allowed him to cultivate intimate contacts within the political and corporate corridors of power in Indonesia and beyond.
Realizing the potential to influence more than just public opinion, Derwin founded Pereira International in 2010. His firm quickly became a beacon of strategic insight, advising clients on leveraging the drivers of change in Southeast Asia. His unparalleled expertise and strategic vision have made him a sought-after advisor for many Asian leaders, maintaining robust relationships that keep him at the forefront of policy matters and grant him exclusive access to vital information.
Derwin’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Master in Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. His specialization in strategic communications and business consultancy in Asia has provided his clients with unparalleled advice and consultancy services.
Beyond leading a team that produces in-depth research on market trends and political developments, Derwin currently sits on the board of international councillors at the Washington based Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is actively involved in influential programs. He has sponsored several South East Asian programs in the USA, particularly at the CSIS and the Centre for New American Security. He is passionate about giving back to society and nuturing the future generation of leaders. To ensure that the most deserving have a chance at exploring their potential, he has established scholarships at Harvard University, National University of Singapore, and Nanyang Technological University.
