Culture minister’s work culture

Indonesia’s Minister of Education and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro (above) leads by example.

According to his aides, he is among the first and last to leave the office every day. He starts work at 4.45 am and finishes at 10 pm.

“We have no choice but to follow him,” said one, adding that as time passed, he was beginning to enjoy the long working hours like others in the ministry.

Said another aide: “It is hard in the beginning but now it has become a habit, and we find it good for our health and discipline.

“Amazingly the minister is always fit.”

On his ability to work long hours, Mr Wardiman gave this advice: “Get enough rest at home, do some jogging and never feel depressed.”
