Top-level Pakistani team in S’pore for economic talks

A HIGH-LEVEL economic delegation from Pakistan arrived in Singapore yesterday to discuss possible areas of co-operation between the two countries.

The four-man delegation, led by the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr Shahid Hasan Khan, will hold discussions with senior Government officials on bilateral economic matters.

They will meet the Permanent Secretary (Trade and Industry) Mr Lam Chuan Leong and Permanent Secretary (Communications) Mr Tjong Yik Min.

Besides meeting Economic Development Board chairman, Mr Philip Yeo, they will have talks with Brigadier-General (NS) Lee Hsien Yang, Telecom deputy president. They will also call on Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

The delegation also includes the permanent secretary for Board of Investment Salman Farooqui, additional secretary for Economic and Finance Waqar Masood Khan and National Highway Authority chairman Shahid Aziz Siddiqi.

The Head of Chancery of the Pakistan High Commission here, Mr Mohammad Idris Khan, told The Straits Times yesterday that the delegation would act as an “advance party” for Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s visit to Singapore on March 8 and 9.
